Musings of a capricious mind

When I chose to make the Lucknow delicacies today, the first thing that hit my mind was the Kebab’s, and so many varieties of it, especially because of some of them have been said to got all the fame in and around Lucknow during the Mughal era. The Tundey kebab and Galawati Kebab would not make any Lucknowi lunch or dinner complete if for any reason they missed to make it to the table. My choice was tough, but I gave it a chance. The Shaami kebab…

When I first looked at the history, I saw many conflicting stories, the famous one from a Nawab who did not have any teeth left and yet wanted to enjoy the delicacies. Some mentioned about how it was a Syrian kebab ( Shaam meaning Syrian) and some just pulled it as a Kebab meant to compete other. It was easy for me to not get in the history and just stick to the basics..

Here is what came out

Preparation for 30 mins and cooking preparing for another 30.

I think the most important element of the recipe for the Shami kebab is that it doesn’t much rely on lot of spices like the Tundey or Galawati (ga-lau-tee) kebabs.

Cardamom, Cinnamon, peppercorn, clove, red chillies and green chillies with the minced meat, onion and garlic and ginger paste makes it all. The most important element of the Shaami Kebab been the Eggs and Bengal gram..

So when you have an urge to have kebabs, don’t miss out on the Shaami kebabs. I put some more pics of the Shaami kebab coming out on the Insta Account here .

Shaami kebabs are best served with mint chutney, but then if you add a tamarind one it would also get it a bit tangy.

Shaami kebabs although considered as best appetizers, can at times just be rolled inside the roti or naan...

Scrums are a vital tool in the Agile scrum methodology, a tool to let you have visibility in shorter time frames if you are achieving what you had set as a goal..

  • Scrums are not status updates: So don’t give and take status updates. Make it a conversation to reveal where you stand in achieving scrum goals and what is keeping you from it.

  • Scrums are not speeches: So let the Team have a word.

  • Scrums are not push the car to reach the destination: Steer it, allow and guide people to reach the scrum goals.

  • Scrums are not abstract: They need to be detailed, don’t generalize what you say. Be specific, Bug/CR number, Class, Blocker event, person who needs to help you out etc.

  • Scrums are not roadways: They are rail tracks, so let your scrum run on track.

  • Scrums are not for the sake of it: They are for a purpose, the purpose been; How we are fairing and what is stopping us from reaching there.

  • Scrums are not for everyone: They are for teams that are helping achieve the scrum goals; if you are not working towards those goals, you are everyone.

  • Scrums are not for repetition: If you have same thing said / heard more than twice in the scrum; YOU are off track.

Yes absolutely scrums are: What you worked on; what you will work on and what is blocking you; But beyond that scrums are a platform to focus on that last part and find steering answers to be jubilant.

How do you scale on what scrums are not?

Things to do in meetings where You are unprepared…

  1. Keep looking around every face that speaks.
  2. Nod your head occasionally
  3. If you want to doze off (cover your eyes in a way no one would know) and people can assume you are thinking
  4. Stroll your phone, but as if you are referring to something.
  5. Draw flowers and mountains on a piece of paper, but make people think you are taking notes.
  6. Occasionally check time by making sure your wrist watch passes your eyes indistinctly
  7. Ask a random question, so no one complaints about your participation
  8. Smile and laugh as others would
  9. Start a side talk with the neighbour attendee just to pretend you are involved.
  10. Every time a question is asked do ask to repeat the question

  What do you do?

Here is what I will be reading next in Jan….
A History of India under the Two First Sovereigns of the House of Taimur, Báber and Humáyun

A book from William Erskine a scottish historian, who mostly wrote on medival india. The book came to my eyes where strolling through the digital libraries on the archives.org. The book specifically writes about Taimur family and the history of Babur and Humayun. The read though long, I am expect it to be a good one, specially due to the fact that off late a lot of books have tarnished / edited history to suit the convenience and liking of the readers.
I will post a review once I am through with this… although I am a bit concerned that this would be a digital book, I am unsure how much and how long I will be able to focus J

It took some time to decide what to read this year. Each year I started my Goodreads challenge and always made between 50 and 75 percent. This year I decided to switch the path, I decided to plan and read only what I could. And here is my list of books I would want to read in 2019:

Delhi by Heart : Raza Rumi

Read so many reviews and each one just kept telling me that is one book to look for. Delhi has always been so mysetirous, murky, equisite and breathtaking and no it is just not about the mughals; The sultunat has much more to it.

I decided to chose this as my first choice to read... January 2019....
